The group went public at the end of 2015 and recently made a number of acquisitions which are strengthening its presence in key markets. Scandic is the largest Nordic hotel operator with a network of about 280 hotels with 58,000 hotel rooms in operation and under development in six countries. Scandic employs 18,000 team members. Scandic Friends is the largest loyalty program in the Nordic hotel industry. Two years later, the Arctia Hotels group in Finland followed, giving Scandic a presence in all the Nordic countries, and in 1999, the group expanded into Estonia. In 2001, Scandic was acquired by the London-based Hilton Group.
